c.1983 Moulton AM2 bicycles.
A pair of c.1983 Moulton AM2 bicycles featuring the iconic space-frame design for enhanced comfort and speed.
Hand-built in the UK as the "town" variant of the initial AM series.
The AM2 (Advanced Moulton 2) was designed to offer the ultimate in small-wheel technology, combining full suspension with a rigid space frame, making it a high-speed, upright bicycle.
Launched in 1962, by Dr Alex Moulton - his first bicycle design featured small 16-inch wheels and a unique "F-frame" (later a high-rigidity "space-frame"). He pioneered the use of full suspension on road bikes, allowing small wheels to use high-pressure tyres without sacrificing comfort. In c.1983 Moulton brought out the AM space-frame series of bicycles.
This particular pair of early AM2 models have been in the same ownership since new. 17" inch wheels with recently fitted Schwalbe tyres. Fitted with Sachs 2 speed duomatic rear hubs with coaster brakes. They are in good condition considering they are now over 40 years old. They have been in long term dry storage and will require a light recommissioning.
Designed by a true British engineer, these little bicycles represent a small part of Dr Alex Moultons legacy.
Priced as a pair, but could be sold individually! Just ask?
As a side note: Moulton also developed the rubber cone suspension for the original BMC Mini, which was vital for its compact size. He later invented the Hydrolastic and Hydragas interconnected fluid/gas systems used in millions of British cars. SOLD
